Costa del Sol is one of Spain's most popular international tourist destinations. It extends along the Mediterranean coast from the province of Granada in the east to Cadiz in the west. Whilst mainly known for its wonderful sunny beaches, it also includes the important towns of Malaga, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella and Estepona.
The region is renowned for its beautiful coastline, with spectacular mountains providing a backdrop to the beaches and harbours - the scenery is unsurpassed by that of any other holiday destination.
Costa del Sol offers a large choice of warm, sunny beaches, where the visitor can enjoy a variety of water sports such as swimming, fishing, scuba diving, or snorkelling. It is quite possible to go skiing on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada in the morning, and swimming in the sea in the afternoon!
Most of the beaches have adequate car parking facilities, due to the extensive promenades, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes.
As an alternative to the beach there are theme parks, boat trips, cave visits, cable car rides, and a host of other activities (see Things to Do). Cinema and theatre goers are also provided for, whilst there are many modern shops in the larger towns.
The young at heart are catered for by the regions vibrant night life. There is an abundance of pubs, bars, discos and night clubs, as well as an extensive range of restaurants to suit all tastes.
There are at least thirty golf courses in the area (which is often referred to as the Costa del Golf), built to the highest international standards, and the climate makes it possible to play all the year round.
In short, Costa del Sol is a place to relax and chill out, to enjoy the sun, sand and sea, to have fun in the sun, or to take part on any of the many available activitiesas the mood takes you.
